Gossett was raised on Chicago's South Side, attended Chicago State University's gifted center at age 12, graduated eighth grade as valedictorian, and earned a bachelor's degree in business from Illinois Institute of Technology

Career included positions at Wrigley Company, Chicago Bulls, Inland Steel, McDonald's Corporation, and the Chicago Chamber of Commerce before founding his own diversity training consulting business, Best Practices Training, in 2000

Served as president of Project Unity, a community initiative founded in 1993 to foster interaction and socialization across racial backgrounds in Oak Park

Survived by his wife Megan, children Alexander Gossett and Precious Adrienne Lane, four grandchildren, and extended family members
