Illinois Senate resolution mourning the death of Dr. Sriram Sonty, M.D., F.A.C.S., an ophthalmologist who passed away on June 8, 2025

Dr. Sonty was born in India on July 10, 1946, studied medicine at Andhra Medical College, and moved to the United States in May 1975, where he trained at Tufts Medical Center, Harvard's Boston Children Medical Center, and the University of Pittsburgh

Served as clinical associate professor at the University of Illinois Chicago Glaucoma Service, founded the glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology sections at LV Prasad Eye Institute in India, and authored over 125 publications

Held leadership positions including president of Matteson Rotary Club, founder/trustee of LV Prasad Eye Institute, and member of Congressman Danny K. Davis' Advisory Task Force and Governors State University Foundation Board

Made significant philanthropic contributions with his wife to institutions including UIC Foundation, Chicago Symphony Center, GSU Scholarship Fund, and Rotary International Foundation, while promoting Indian cultural heritage through organizations like the Gandhi Memorial Trust and Sri Annamacharya Project of North America
