Recognizes REO Speedwagon for nearly six decades of musical and cultural impact in Illinois and worldwide

The band was founded in 1967 by Neal Doughty and Alan Gratzer, who met at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with the name inspired by a 1915 truck designed by Ransom Eli Olds

REO Speedwagon was inducted into the inaugural class of the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66 on June 11, 2021

The band performed its final concert in June 2025, commemorating nearly 60 years of performances that began at campus events and local bars before growing to national acclaim
