Recognized for decades of political activism advocating for peace, fair housing, women's rights, firearm safety, and democratic politics, including serving as a challenge delegate at the 1972 Democratic National Convention

Served on the Triton Community College Board for six years and was a 50-year member of the League of Women Voters

Helped create the Amate House and Peace Museum in Chicago and served on the board of Family Services and Mental Health of Oak Park and River Forest (now Thrive)

Survived by four children, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and sister Joan Gannon
