Chaired the Sangamon County Republican Party from 1983 to 2005 and served as a delegate to six Republican National Conventions from 1984 to 2004

Career educator who worked as teacher, coach, and principal in Springfield schools, and was instrumental in establishing the Head Start Program in Springfield Public Schools

Taught thousands of children to swim, coaching multiple swim teams including the YWCA women's swim team and Griffin High School, earning IHSA District Coach of the Year honors in 1981 and 1982 and induction into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 1999
