Earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Baker University in 1956 and completed graduate work at Pittsburgh State Teachers College; published children's book "Shh! Shh! The Children are Praying" in June 2025

Active United Methodist Church member who served as a US-2 home missionary, Sunday School superintendent, and participated in civil rights and ministry work in Chicago's Englewood community

Served as board member and president of United Voices for Children; nominated as one of the Chicago Tribune's Remarkable Women in December 2011; survived by 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren
