Illinois Senate congratulates the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) on its 50th anniversary, founded September 20, 1976

WDSRA was established by Glen Ellyn, Naperville, West Chicago, and Wheaton Park Districts to provide recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities, starting with just two programs and growing to over 700 annually

The organization expanded between 1986-1996 to include five additional park districts (Bloomingdale, Warrenville, Winfield, Roselle, and Carol Stream), now serving nine total districts across western DuPage County

WDSRA earned national Gold Medal for Excellence in Programming awards in 1979 and 1993, and became the first special recreation association to receive Distinguished Accredited Agency recognition in 2002

The Rec & Roll adult day program launched in 2005 has expanded to seven locations, offering programs for participants ages three through seniors in athletics, arts, camps, and social activities
