Illinois Senate recognizes Our Lady of Mount Carmel Academy (OLMCA) in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood for completing their "Kid Conclave" school project and meeting Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican

The May 2025 mock papal conclave featured 25 first through sixth grade students dressed as cardinals in handmade replica robes and birettas, with two kindergarteners serving as Swiss Guards

The project gained international attention online, with contacts from people across the U.S. and countries including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, the Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom

Students were invited to the Vatican in October 2025, where they met Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter's Square with assistance from Cardinal Blase Cupich and each received a rosary with the pope's crest

Teachers Dominic Moretti and Allison Foerster are recognized for orchestrating both the conclave lesson and the Vatican pilgrimage
