Illinois Senate congratulates Kaskaskia College on its 85th anniversary as an educational institution in 2025.

Kaskaskia College was established in 1940 as Centralia Township Junior College, making it the first community college founded in Illinois.

The college became the first institution officially recognized under the Illinois Community College Act of 1965, designated as Community College District 501.

The college serves thousands of students annually across a multicounty district including Clinton, Marion, Washington, Bond, Fayette, and portions of surrounding counties in Southern Illinois.

George Evans currently serves as the institution's 11th president.
