Born in Wilmette on July 31, 1965, graduated from Marquette University, and trained at Second City in Chicago before becoming a founding member of the iO West improv troupe Beer Shark Mice

Notable television career included recurring roles on Murphy Brown, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Ed, and My Boys, as well as memorable appearances as Joe Mayo on Seinfeld and Dr. Roger on Friends

Played Bill Norwood on the ABC sitcom The Middle from 2010 to 2018 and served as an adjunct professor teaching Improv for Strategic Communication at the University of Colorado

Survived by his wife Donna, children Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan, his parents, and five siblings
