Illinois Senate memorial resolution honoring Bishop Dr. Claude Porter, who passed away on December 30, 2025, at age 88

Founded Proviso Missionary Baptist Church in Maywood in 1972, where he served as senior pastor until retiring in 2016 and was consecrated as Bishop in 2005

Founded the Proviso-Leyden Council for Community Action (PLCCA) in 1968, a nonprofit serving over 30,000 individuals and families annually across 26 municipalities with a budget exceeding $9 million

Founded multiple organizations including the Proviso Township Ministerial Alliance Network (PTMAN), Interfaith Illinois, and the Porter Family Center, and served as president of Maywood Phoenix Homes and Goodell Place Homes

Received numerous awards including the Jefferson Award, Rainbow PUSH Coalition's Father of the Community Award, and was honored by the Village of Maywood with a commemorative street sign at 5th and Madison
