Illinois Senate congratulates Proviso East High School in Maywood for receiving a "Commendable" designation from the Illinois State Board of Education two consecutive years

The school improved from a "Comprehensive" designation (bottom 5% of schools in the state) to "Targeted" status three years ago before achieving "Commendable" status

Graduation rates increased more than 10%, ninth-grade on-track-to-graduate rates improved by 20%, and truancy rates declined by nearly 20%

The school, founded in 1910, serves students from Broadview, Forest Park, Maywood, and Melrose under Principal Rodney Hull's leadership

A community dinner honoring the school's accomplishments is scheduled for February 5, 2026, hosted by Maywood Mayor George Booker and local partners
