At age 61, became managing editor of Des Plaines Publishing Co.'s six suburban and two Chicago weekly newspapers, making her the first and only woman to hold that position in the company's 100-year history

Served on boards of the United Way, Des Plaines Historical Society, and Trinity Lutheran Church Council, and held leadership positions in church and community women's organizations

Survived by three children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren
