Illinois Senate encourages the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, through the Illinois Judicial College, to develop a continuing legal education program for Guardians ad Litem (GALs) serving in family law and juvenile matters

Proposed training would cover chronic medical conditions affecting children, distinguishing between legitimate medical advocacy and parental conflict, and appropriate consultation with treating medical professionals

Program would include education on treatment adherence, risk assessment, and the ethical limits of a GAL's medical opinions

Resolution encourages promotion of the training statewide and communication of this recommendation to Chief Judges for consideration in GAL appointment and continued service determinations

Copies of the resolution to be delivered to the Director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts and the Director of the Illinois Judicial College
