Jim Edgar served as the 38th Governor of Illinois for two terms, previously holding positions as State Representative of the 53rd District and Illinois Secretary of State, beginning his elected service in 1977

As governor, Edgar addressed state budget deficits and championed education reforms to improve school funding across Illinois

Post-governorship, Edgar held fellowships at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, and served as chairman of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation

Edgar received the Order of Lincoln, Illinois' highest honor, and created the Edgar Fellows Program to develop future civic leaders
