HB 1147 Summary

• Exempts school bus monitors from physical characteristics requirements that currently apply to school bus drivers, including requirements for use of hands, arms, feet, legs, eyes, and ears.

• Maintains physical characteristic requirements only for school bus drivers, not monitors, including visual acuity standards (20/40 in each eye) and freedom from communicable diseases.

• Allows school bus monitors to be as young as 18 years old, with an exception permitting under-21 monitors only when sufficient qualified applicants aged 21+ are unavailable.

• Updates code references from IC 20-27-8-1(a)(7) to IC 20-27-8-1(a)(6)(B) to reflect the reorganization of school bus employment requirements.

• Becomes effective upon passage and declares an emergency.
