HB 1153 - Paramedic Licensing

• Establishes a new paramedic board to license paramedics, replacing certification by the emergency medical services commission, effective July 1, 2010.

• Creates licensing requirements including minimum age of 21, completion of educational/practical requirements, documented field experience, and payment of board-set fees.

• Makes practicing as a paramedic or using the title "licensed paramedic" without a valid license a Class B misdemeanor.

• Allows paramedics certified by the emergency medical services commission before the effective date until July 1, 2012 to practice without licensing while obtaining a license.

• Updates all references throughout Indiana Code from "certified paramedic" to "licensed paramedic" in relevant statutes governing health care, public safety, emergency services, and related professions.
