HB 1213 Summary

• Allows students in grades 9-12 to apply for the Twenty-First Century Scholars program beginning with the 2010-2011 school year if they did not meet income eligibility requirements in grades 6-8.

• Requires applicants to be Indiana residents since grade 6 and eligible for free or reduced-price lunches at the time of application.

• Requires written agreements with custodial parents/guardians that students will graduate from an eligible Indiana secondary school, maintain a 2.0 GPA, and refrain from illegal drug use and criminal activity.

• Requires applicants to attest they did not illegally use controlled substances or commit crimes or infractions prior to applying for the program.

• Takes effect July 1, 2010.
