HB 1219 Summary

• Makes handgun license application information, investigative records, and identifying information of license holders confidential and exempt from public records disclosure under IC 5-14-3-4(a)(1).

• Permits release of handgun license information to federal, state, or local government entities for law enforcement purposes or to verify license validity.

• Allows journalists access to aggregate handgun licensing statistics only if all personal identifying information has been removed.

• Repeals provisions in IC 35-47-11 that authorized local governments to adopt emergency ordinances regulating firearm sales for up to 72 hours during declared local disaster emergencies.

• Effective July 1, 2010.
