HB 1273 Summary

• Creates a new Class D felony for persons at least 18 years old who use computer networks to impersonate a specific child under 18 with intent to arouse or satisfy sexual desires.

• Increases penalty to Class C felony if the impersonation results in bodily injury to the child, causes another person to commit a felony against the child, or the offender has a prior unrelated conviction for this offense.

• Increases penalty to Class B felony if the impersonation results in serious bodily injury to the child.

• Requires persons convicted of impersonating a minor for sexual purposes to register as sex or violent offenders.

• Effective July 1, 2010, and applies only to crimes committed after June 30, 2010.
