HB 1283 Summary

• Allows local government units with sufficient emergency telephone system funds to appropriate excess funds to support 211 services (human services information and referral) in their service area.

• Requires units seeking to appropriate excess emergency telephone system fees for 211 services to coordinate with the recognized 211 service provider and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

• Directs appropriated funds to the 211 services account in the state general fund for disbursement as grants to the applicable 211 service provider.

• Amends IC 8-1-19.5-11 to allow local units to appropriate excess emergency telephone system fees to the 211 services account, with disbursements made as grants to serving 211 providers.

• Effective July 1, 2010.
