IN HB1290

Creates new criminal offense of "having an inappropriate relationship with a student" when a teacher or coach in a primary or secondary school knowingly or intentionally has sexual contact with a student under 19 years of age enrolled at their school

Classifies the offense as a Class A misdemeanor

Defines "sexual contact" to include sexual intercourse, deviate sexual conduct, and any fondling or touching intended to arouse or satisfy sexual desires

Requires the Indiana Department of Education to permanently revoke the teaching license of any person convicted of this offense, after holding a hearing

Applies to licensed teachers in public schools, charter schools, and coaches in primary or secondary school athletic programs, effective July 1, 2010
