HB 1304 Summary

• Amends IC 21-39-4-6 to expand jurisdiction of police officers employed by public postsecondary educational institutions in Indiana.

• Allows campus police officers to exercise their powers at any location in Indiana, not just on institutional property.

• Requires two conditions for off-campus authority: the educational institution must approve the exercise of powers, and the officer must be engaged in official duties.

• Removes previous language limiting jurisdiction to institutional property and adjacent streets, and eliminates the requirement for agreements with municipal or county law enforcement.

• Effective July 1, 2010.
