HB 1307 Summary

• Allows juvenile courts to create preventative programs for at-risk children defined as those at risk of juvenile involvement, school suspension/expulsion, or dropping out.

• Permits courts to appoint guardians ad litem or court appointed special advocates (CASA) for children participating in preventative programs and allows these advocates to create and implement family support plans with parental consent.

• Establishes confidentiality protections for information shared with GALs and CASAs, allowing use only by those implementing the plan and the juvenile court.

• Grants civil and criminal immunity to individuals who make good faith requests for a child to participate in the program or who participate in good faith in developing and implementing a child's plan.

• Effective date: July 1, 2010.
