HB 1327 Summary

• Requires parents to notify their child's school when the child will be absent and provide the reason for the absence.

• Notification must be made in person or by telephone, and if possible, before the school day begins during which the child will be absent.

• Parents must report each day of absence unless they report on the first day how many total days the child will be absent.

• Violation of reporting requirements is unlawful; superintendent or designee must serve personal notice before legal proceedings can be instituted.

• Effective July 1, 2010; amends IC 20-33-2-27.
