Senate Bill 18 Summary

• Prohibits using a telecommunications device to transmit a text message or electronic mail message while operating a moving motor vehicle, effective July 1, 2010.

• Establishes violation as a Class C infraction.

• Defines "telecommunications device" as an electronic or digital telecommunications device, including wireless telephones, personal digital assistants, pagers, and text messaging devices.

• Defines "text message" as electronic text communication sent from a telecommunications device.

• Repeals the existing definition of "telecommunications device" in IC 9-24-11-0.5.
