SB 57 Summary

• Allows county legislative bodies to adopt a resolution placing a nonbinding ballot question on whether the county should adopt a comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, or both.

• County election boards must place approved questions on the next available general or primary election ballot in accordance with existing election law.

• Only registered voters residing in unincorporated areas of the county may vote on the local public question.

• Results of the ballot question are nonbinding; county legislative bodies may adopt or reject comprehensive plans and zoning ordinances regardless of voter preference.

• Effective July 1, 2010.
