Senate Bill No. 89 Summary

• Amends IC 10-13-6-13.5 to permit the superintendent of the state police department to authorize investigation of individuals genetically related to a person whose DNA profile is in the Indiana DNA database.

• Applies when a DNA sample from a criminal investigation does not match exactly with a stored DNA profile but shows such close similarity as to suggest a genetic relationship to the database individual.

• Investigations must comply with Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) guidelines established by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2010.
