Senate Bill No. 125 Summary

• Requires state employee health benefit plans that provide prescription drug coverage to cover smoking cessation drugs, effective July 1, 2010.

• Mandates policies of accident and sickness insurance providing prescription drug benefits to include coverage for smoking cessation drugs with the same cost-sharing terms as other prescription drugs.

• Requires health maintenance organization contracts that provide prescription drug coverage to cover smoking cessation drugs without less favorable deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance than other prescription drugs.

• Defines "smoking cessation drug" as a prescription drug prescribed to help individuals stop using smoking tobacco.

• Applies to all new, amended, or renewed plans, policies, and contracts established after June 30, 2010.
