School corporations must conduct at least 900 hours of instructional time for grades 1-6 and 1,080 hours for grades 7-12 within a minimum of 180 student instructional days per school year.

School corporations conducting at least 910 hours for grades 1-6 and 1,092 hours for grades 7-12 with fewer than 183 teacher days may dismiss students for up to 4 hours per grading period for parent-teacher conferences, with such hours counting as instructional time.

Simplifies the penalty formula for school corporations failing to meet minimum instructional days by calculating the reduction based on total tuition support divided by the number of days short (maximum 5 days penalty).

Superintendents must certify the number of student instructional days conducted to the department by June 15 of each school year.

Effective date is July 1, 2010.
