Senate Bill 179 Summary

• Establishes the Indiana protective order registry as an electronic depository maintained by the division of state court administration to store copies of all protective orders.

• Allows sheriffs to designate individuals to add additional information to protective orders in the registry, including dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver license numbers, and physical descriptions of parties.

• Removes the requirement that law enforcement agencies enter information about protective orders involving intimate partners into the National Crime Information Center's Protection Order File.

• Requires county case management systems to interface with the protective order registry by December 31, 2009, and directs the division of state court administration to provide standard protocols to prosecuting attorneys and courts.

• Effective July 1, 2010.
