SB 247 Summary

• Court may prohibit a person convicted of an impaired driving offense from operating a motor vehicle unless equipped with a functioning certified ignition interlock device for at least 90 days.

• Prohibited person must pay the cost of installation and monitoring unless the court determines the person is indigent.

• Person subject to ignition interlock restriction who drives another vehicle in an emergency must notify the court within 24 hours.

• Renting, leasing, or loaning a vehicle without a functioning ignition interlock device to a restricted person is a Class A infraction, except in emergencies.

• Effective July 1, 2010.
