Senate Bill 321 Summary

• Grants up to six years of service credit in the Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRF) for members' past active duty military service, subject to eligibility conditions including honorable discharge and at least ten years of in-state service.

• Grants up to six years of service credit in the 1977 Police Officers' and Firefighters' Pension and Disability Fund for members' active duty military service, with similar eligibility requirements and a requirement that members pay member and employer contributions for the service period.

• For World War II veterans, military service credit may be used in benefit calculations for payments after June 30, 2010; for all other members, credit may be used only for payments after June 30, 2012.

• Effective July 1, 2010, and applies retroactively to members regardless of their retirement date.
