HB 1108 Summary

• Requires courts to prohibit sexually violent predators and offenders against children from being on elementary or secondary school property as a condition of probation, with limited exceptions.

• Allows sex offenders who attend school to be present only at the school they attend, but prohibits them from being on other school property.

• Requires sex offenders who are parents or guardians of school-attending children to notify the school and school corporation in writing of their status, and prohibits them from school property except when attending meetings with teachers or administrators while escorted by school staff.

• Maintains existing probation conditions including registration with law enforcement, residence restrictions within 1,000 feet of school property, computer monitoring consent, and restrictions on accessing websites and chat rooms frequented by children.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
