HB 1118 Summary

• Requires school corporations to use standardized plans and specifications adopted by the state board of education for construction, alteration, and repair of school buildings, athletic facilities, and related facilities.

• School corporations must submit proposed plans and specifications to the state department of education for review within 30 days to determine compliance with state standards.

• Allows school corporations to appeal to the state board for approval to use alternative plans and specifications if they can demonstrate the proposed plans will be as efficient and cost effective as the standards.

• Changes guidelines from nonbinding to mandatory standards, and adds new requirements for material specifications, labor standards, and ready-to-bid written plans.

• Effective January 1, 2012.
