HB 1145 Summary

• Changes Lake Station school corporation governing body elections from primary elections to general elections, effective July 1, 2011.

• Candidates must file nomination petitions 104 to 74 days before the general election (instead of primary election) with at least 100 registered voter signatures.

• Terms of elected members begin January 1 (changed from July 1) following their election and remain four years in length.

• Three members are elected at the 2012 general election and every four years thereafter; two members are elected at the 2014 general election and every four years thereafter.

• Transitional provisions establish that successors to members elected in 2008 and 2010 primary elections are elected at the 2012 and 2014 general elections respectively, taking office January 1, 2013 and January 1, 2015.
