House Bill 1164 Summary

• Increases the maximum Vigo County innkeeper's tax rate from 5% to 8% on short-term lodging rentals (less than 30 days).

• Phases in the tax increase over six years: 5.5% (2012), 6% (2013), 6.5% (2014), 7% (2015), 7.5% (2016), and 8% (2017 and thereafter).

• Exempts student lodging in university memorial unions and residence halls when the student receives college credit from a state university located in the county.

• Applies to commercial hotels, motels, inns, tourist camps, and university residence halls, but excludes state camping facilities.

• Effective upon passage with emergency declaration.
