HB 1189 Summary

• Creates the school bullying prevention task force for students with disabilities to study causes and effects of bullying, identify effective practices, and evaluate current antibullying policies.

• Task force consists of 11 members including department employees, teachers, school administrators, parents of children with disabilities, legislators, and the governor or designee.

• Members serve two-year terms and elect a chairperson and vice chairperson; task force must meet at least quarterly.

• Task force shall submit a status report by December 1, 2012, and a final report with findings and recommendations by June 30, 2013, to the governor and legislative council.

• Task force expires July 1, 2013; bill becomes effective July 1, 2011.
