HB 1202 Summary

• Removes the requirement that physical therapists obtain an order or referral from a physician, podiatrist, psychologist, chiropractor, or dentist before practicing physical therapy.

• Maintains the requirement that physical therapists obtain a license from the board to practice physical therapy in Indiana.

• Clarifies that physical therapists may not evaluate physical disabilities or mental disorders without an order or referral from a licensed healthcare provider.

• Prohibits physical therapists from practicing medicine, surgery, dentistry, optometry, osteopathy, psychology, chiropractic, or podiatric medicine, or prescribing drugs.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
