House Bill 1212 Summary

• Establishes a task force within the state department of health to develop rules and statewide standards for credentialing health care vendors (pharmaceutical representatives, medical device representatives, and life sciences representatives) that provide services in hospitals.

• Task force composition includes up to 9 members with required representation from hospitals, medical device industry, Indiana Hospital Association, life sciences industry, and pharmaceutical industry, chaired by the state health commissioner or designee, with governor appointments due by July 1, 2011.

• Task force rules must be consistent with hospital credentialing organization requirements, comply with federal law, and be ready for state department implementation by January 1, 2012.

• State department shall adopt and implement the task force recommended rules no later than January 1, 2012.

• Task force expires June 30, 2012, and bill takes effect upon passage.
