IN HB1305

Requires the Indiana Department of Education, in conjunction with the state board, to develop a "farm to school" plan connecting schools with local farms to provide locally produced fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and other nutritious foods for school breakfast, lunch, and snack programs

Plan must promote farm to school programs including encouraging Indiana food purchases, nutritional and agricultural education, farm visits, cooking demonstrations, and school composting and gardening

Plan must identify and address impediments to providing locally produced foods in schools, promote communication between farmers and schools, and provide training for school food service personnel, farmers, and food distributors

Components with fiscal impact must be presented to the General Assembly for consideration and appropriation in the 2013-2014 state budget; components without fiscal impact may be implemented after a public hearing by the state board

Effective date of July 1, 2011
