House Bill 1403 Summary

• Amends IC 20-20-28-4 to require the Indiana Department of Education to establish pilot programs targeting at-risk students in preschool and early childhood programs where non-English dominant students are enrolled.

• Adds English immersion instruction for non-English dominant students as a required component when the department establishes pilot early education programs.

• Maintains existing pilot program requirements for early childhood parental information programs, latch key programs, and preschool programs while expanding to include early childhood programs with non-English dominant students.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
