HB 1475 Summary

• Requires hospitals licensed under IC 16-21, IC 16-22, IC 16-23, or IC 16-23.5 to annually administer or make available influenza immunizations to employees with direct patient contact.

• Immunizations must be offered annually during the September 1 through March 1 period and must follow Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

• Hospitals are not required to provide immunizations if vaccine supply is inadequate as determined by the state department.

• Employees may be exempted from immunization requirements if they provide physician documentation of prior immunization, have a medical contraindication, have religious objections, or decline in writing after receiving education on risks and benefits.

• Effective July 1, 2011; authorizes the state department to adopt rules to administer the chapter.
