HB 1477 Summary

• Allows Medicaid providers to contract directly with Medicaid recipients in writing to bill them for specified office visit services instead of billing the Medicaid program.

• Permits direct billing only for Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) office visit codes 99211, 99212, 99213, 99214, and 99215 (or their subsequent code equivalents).

• Requires written contracts that specify each service covered, the date of service, the dollar amount charged for each service, and the total amount owed.

• Protects providers from fraud or abuse charges solely for entering into these contracts and maintains their Medicaid provider status for all other covered services.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
