HB 1494 Summary

• Requires county fiscal body approval for any police or fire training facility construction costing more than $75,000 by local government units.

• Establishes mandatory Fire Officer I training requirements for administrative fire officers, executive fire officers, and other positions responsible for fire ground operations in paid, volunteer, or combination fire departments.

• Individuals serving in covered fire officer positions on or before December 31, 2012, must complete Fire Officer I training by December 31, 2013; individuals first serving in such positions after December 31, 2012, must complete training within one year of appointment.

• Allows the board of firefighting personnel standards and education to grant up to two six-month extensions for training completion.

• Effective July 1, 2011, with provisions applying to projects initiated after June 30, 2011.
