• Establishes a school readiness reimbursement grant program providing $2,500 to parents of eligible children born after December 31, 2004.

• Children must not have attended public kindergarten, completed more than 30 school days in grade 1, and must successfully complete a readiness assessment indicating preparedness for grade 1.

• School corporations and nonpublic schools administer assessments and grants under department standards; no fees may be charged to parents or children.

• Department of Education develops assessment standards, application forms, and program procedures.

• Grants paid from state general fund within 60 days of successful assessment completion; funding is continuously appropriated annually.
