HB 1501 Summary

• Requires Twenty-first Century Scholars program participants to agree in writing to refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages and using tobacco products while participating in the program.

• Removes the word "illegally" from the requirement that scholarship applicants certify they have not consumed alcoholic beverages, making any consumption a violation.

• Makes scholarship recipients subject to at least one alcohol or drug test while participating in the program.

• Requires annual renewal applications to include income eligibility documentation showing the student or their parent qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch under the national school lunch program.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
