House Bill 1515 - Duplication of Motor Vehicle Keys

• Requires key duplicaters (locksmiths and motor vehicle dealers) to verify the identity of individuals requesting duplicate keys for passenger motor vehicles.

• Key duplicaters must obtain a current and valid driver's license, nondriver identification card, or out-of-state equivalent before duplicating a vehicle key.

• Key duplicaters must verify that the vehicle registration is issued to the individual requesting the duplicate key.

• Violation of these requirements constitutes a Class B infraction.

• Effective date: July 1, 2011.
