HB 1519 Summary

• Raises the minimum age for school dropout from 16 to 18 years old by repealing provisions allowing students under 18 to withdraw from school.

• Removes the GED diploma eligibility for 17-year-olds who have withdrawn from school, restricting GED eligibility to individuals at least 18 years of age.

• Repeals IC 20-33-2-9 and IC 20-33-2-28.5, which previously governed exit interviews and school withdrawal procedures for students 16-17 years old.

• Eliminates the "dropout" status as a condition for denying or revoking a driver's license or learner's permit for minors, as dropout provisions are removed.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
