HB 1553 Summary

• Defines "political communication" as a telephone call that expressly advocates for the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate.

• Requires telephone solicitors making political calls to immediately disclose the caller's name, identity of who paid for or authorized the call, and that person's telephone number and address.

• Prohibits political calls on the day of any primary, general, or special election or within five days immediately before such elections.

• Exempts political calls made by labor organizations, membership organizations, or corporations to their own members, shareholders, or employees from "do not call" list restrictions.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
